Most famously, 007 traditionally carries a Walther PPK (Police Pistol Criminal), although from "Tomorrow Never Dies" to Daniel Craig's first outing in "Casino Royale," he picks up a plastic-framed Walther P99. In keeping with the "back to basics" approach, "Skyfall" sees the PPK reappear, this time with a biometric kit that prevents Bond's enemies from turning their weapons on him. Bond stuck with him until 2015's 'Spectre', and he will take on PPK in 'No Time to Die' later this year.

Some early PPKs, like the example above, were made for the Nazis during WWII. It is perhaps ironic that one of the great fictional heroes of post-war Britain is armed with similar weapons.
Once I personally chose it, it looks like Bond's sidearm of choice is back as MI6's standard issue sidearm. Although unlikely to happen in real life today, the slightly larger PP is and is indeed an official British military pistol. Used by special forces. Bond's own fictional relationship with PPK is an interesting example of a fan's ability to influence product design decisions. In the 1950s, firearms expert Geoffrey Boothroyd wrote a letter to Bond author Ian Fleming criticizing the .25 Beretta and recommending the now iconic PPK instead.

Boothroyd became Bond's unofficial bodyguard and was immortalized as the now famous character of 'Q' (the 'Quartermaster') at the start of the spin-off film franchise. Q returns in 'Skyfall' as a nerdy cyber warrior who believes in computers more than guns. Well, as this change suggests, time has indeed passed since 1955 and I think Mr. Boothroyd would now find PPK obsolete. It's underpowered, underpowered, and extremely heavy when compared to the more modern choice of concealable covert ops weapons. Similarly, the .357 Magnum revolver favored by Boothroyd at the time makes little sense today, heavy, stiff recoil, difficult to conceal, limited to six shots, and no more suitable against the typical henchman than most modern semi-autos. The gun is more "Dirty Harry" than a James Bond weapon.
So what should Bond wear next? What the Secret Service people are doing now is not public, but with the similar P228 and the larger P226 being a British military issue, the SIG-Sauer P229 makes a lot of sense and would be my recommendation if I were to follow in Boothroyd's footsteps. It's more accurate and powerful than the venerable PPK, and holds twice as many rounds in its magazine. The disadvantage is that it is larger and heavier than the smaller PPK. Smaller options include the Ruger LCP9, Kahr CM9, or another SIG, the P239. All are equally light and powerful, firing the 9mm Parabellum cartridge instead of the 9mm Short or the even weaker 7.65mm Browning cartridge available for the PPK. The same goes for perhaps the best compromise choice, the Slimline PPS – Walther's spiritual successor to the classic PPK and the weapon of choice in last year's 007 novel “Carte Blanche”.
Personally, given the modern concealable holsters and expert tailors available to allow Bond to wear his best tuxedo, I'd advise him to go with the P229 pictured below:

But perhaps, like the Aston Martin DB5, the PPK's classically elegant lines are what keep moviegoers coming back for more. The high-pressure projectiles they deliver, as well as modern fashion, make all of the above modern options look chunky, even when hidden under clothing. They don't really make them like they used to.

Police have launched a new appeal to find four disused guns used as props in James Bond films which were stolen in a burglary a year ago.
The memorabilia was taken from the property in Enfield, North London, on the evening of 23 March 2020.
However, the suspects fled the scene in a silver vehicle before police arrived after being disturbed by neighbors.

• A Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum revolver, serial number N60304, featured in Live and Let Die
• A Beretta 'Tomcat' automatic pistol, serial number DAA264306, featured in Die Another Day, equipped with a laser/silencer.
A fifth gun was later found - a Lama 22 pistol with serial number 271915, also featured in Die Another Day.
It was found by members of the public near Roydon railway station in Essex last April.

Detective Inspector Paul Ridley said the public would almost certainly identify them if they were offered for sale.
The burglary suspects are three white men with Eastern European accents. They wore dark clothes and covered their faces.
DI Ridley said: "It has been a year since the theft and so far only one of the firearms has been recovered. Unfortunately, exposure to the elements has left it badly corroded and its integrity destroyed.
“We have released images of a vehicle parked near the scene of the crime which appears to be scanning the area.
