The Springfield XD is an extremely boxy gun. It rivals the Glock in this aspect. I do not like it. The slide is a little too high for my taste. Overall, the gun feels a little fat. Rear and front grips are decent, but there is minimal grip on the sides. I prefer my guns with an aggressive grip. The slide serrations are on the rear slide and little more than a decorative sight on the front. The XD-9 has a non-invasive grip guard. When it comes to pistols, I can usually take or leave the safety, but you also have a loaded chamber indicator and a striker status indicator.

All told, the XD shoots pretty well. Everything is smooth and the recoil is not bad. I attribute this to the recoil system and the larger slide. Regardless of my feelings about the Springfield gun, I can't deny the excellent performance of the XD. It was a lot of fun to shoot. The accuracy is good, although I really hate how the scenes are designed. Instead of shooting directly into the sights, the shots land a little higher. Definitely one of my favorite things about this gun. The trigger is good. I don't usually expect much from a striker fired handgun, and the XD-9 is another pistol with a mediocre trigger.

It's perfect for concealed carry, shoots smoothly and is accurate despite absorbing scopes out of the box. This is a very affordable pistol, with the compact model only costing $399, but you can definitely find it for less.
